What are some of your favourite Penang street food?
I would have to say that curry mee is definitely on my list.
Despite that, I had been eating regularly at two of my favourite stalls and had never tried the one at Lorong Seratus Tahun prior to this.
Being the Seemou Seekers, we had to visit.
If you think about it, I suppose it seems pretty strange to have tiny lanes in town that had been virtually unheard of made famous by a single food stall. There is also, apparently, another commercialised restaurant in KL named after this curry mee stall in Penang's Lorong 100 Tahun.
But being told that only made me want to taste the original. Wouldn't you?
Our orders were all slightly varied even though it was just curry mee. Some requested for no pigs blood, livers, and cockles, whereas I just went for all.
There was also a bowl of chilli oil in the middle of each table that we could help ourselves to.
The chefs behind the dish.
My favourite part of the meal was, however, the drinks.
I was told that it was a must-order and went along with it (it was some longan drink). I'm glad that I did, it was really good, more so on a hot day.
I am not sure if I've ever seen anyone put as much chilli into his food as one of our colleagues did...
Overall speaking, it wasn't too bad. I found the curry to be pretty milky and milder than other curry mee's I've tried, although that may be because I hardly added any chilli.
In the meantime, I think I will still stick to my regular stalls though.
